| 10/03/2008 - League Newsletter |
Just saw this in Tony Pringle's weekly newsletter:
On a happier note
It is pleasing to see that despite all their problems and most unfortunate results, some teams do not just quit and go running home, crying to Mummy. I refer of course to Newmarket Albion and Drayton Lions. In an admirable display of fortitude, both clubs, having lost their 1st team players have managed to survive with their reserve players carrying on in a division probably a bit too high for them. I am assured they both intend to keep going and hopefully they will reach the right level in the League. That to me is what Sunday football should be about, getting out for a game of football regularly and making the most of what transpires. I would not be surprised if these players actually assist in running their club and are not relying on one poor demented soul who thought he could be just the Secretary as in so many clubs.
Well done everyone for their hard work and efforts this season, hopefully we'll start getting the results we deserve next season!
Cheers

| 27/08/2007 - MATCH REPORT Vs FULBOURN SPORTS |
FULBOURN SPORTS 6 v 1 DRAYTON LIONS
Below is the match report for the Fulbourn game, kindly written and supplied by Assistant Manager Carl Oates.
On a blistering hot August Day, some of the football at times wasn't so hot from Drayton Lions. That said, there were some very encouraging passages of play and when we did get the ball on the deck and look up - we looked like a side that could do damage. Failure to capitalise on 15 minutes of sustained possession at 1-1 and then to concede a silly goal to go 2-1 down was quite a key psychological turning point in the game.
Fulborn looked a lot more organised, with fitness levels that collectively exceeded that of our Lions XI, this I suspect was largely due to the fact that Fulborn were playing their 8th pre-season friendly in comparison to our 2nd.
From an individual perspective, Paul Woottton worked hard for 90 minutes and was vocal at all times which was noted and appreciated; Tom Maskell showed glimpses of his growing ability as young player and looked far more polished for releasing the ball 3 seconds earlier as requested. Tom also got our only goal and took the chance well. Patrick Moss showed excellent fitness levels and over time will prove to be an asset for us. Phil Orvis ran tirelessly as our lone front man and as usual was a valued voice. Young Ashley at Centre Half also grew in confidence as the game progressed and will be a welcome member of the squad this season. Gary Jobson was the runaway winner of the man of the match award at Left Back, with some excellent goal saving interventions and a tremendous work ethic throughout.
The fact that we had 11 men, which ran down effectively to 10 with the unfortunate injury to Brian Simpson is a key factor in the result of the game. I would encourage everybody involved on Sunday to pay more attention to the positives we can take from the game rather than the scoreline. With many players to come back from Holiday and work commitments, I'm sure with hard work and further familiarity as a team (both on and off the pitch) we can give a good account of ourselves in the coming season.
See you at Training on Thursday and please outline your availability to Simon Pridmore at the earliest opportunity for this Sunday's league opener, which sees us take on Babraham at Home. [sic] |

| 08/08/2007 - Pre-Season etc etc etc |
As most of you are probably aware, I am away & unavailable throughout August, including the last friendly on 26th Aug at Fulbourn Sports.
Ian & Simon O'Neill assisted by Brian will be taking care of team affairs throughout this period with new Assistant Manager Carl Oates returning at the end of August from his honeymoon.
All availabilities for those matches are to go to the above mentioned people please.
Finally, good luck for the pre-season games, use them as good preparation and work hard for Ian, Si & Bri.
Best Wishes

| 20/07/2007 - STUFF!!! |
Training on Thursday evenings will start at 7pm.
Simon O'Neill will be taking a more active role in taking training.
Training On Sunday 5th August will start at 11pm. As well as the normal stuff, it will be more of a tactical session, working on set pieces etc ahead of the first friendly on the Tuesday evening.
Also on Sunday 5th, it will be photo call time. Individual and Team Photo's will be taken, so make sure you gel your hair, if of course you have any hair, for some of us, hair product is not an issue of course. |

| 16/07/2007 - OVER CRUSADERS Mmmm Tasty |
We have an early opportunity to face a handful of former players on Sunday 12th August, in the shape of Over Crusaders.
Along with former captain Stu, we might expect to see Boothroyd, Gherkin & maybe the lesser spotted Passey, who have all rumoured to have signed for the Division 2 outfit.
No incentive needed then.
Ian will be in charge of the Team for both friendly games (hopefully assisted by Bri & Si 'O', if available) on the 12th & 19th.
I have a bit of a dilemma for the match on the 19th as there seems to be a lot of teams wanting to play us. Do we play a really good team, or do we play someone from a Lower Division? The choice is literally there. Any Ideas, let me know soonest. |
